“For me, painting is the best way I know to express myself and comes to me most easily. My subject matter may vary, but I’m constantly striving to make the ordinary more intriguing. Capturing light is a priority since it influences shapes, colors, textures, and composition. I want you to feel the spray of the ocean, or peer into the depth of a pond and see what is on the bottom. There’s satisfaction in painting the sun sparkles on a lake or the glint in the eye of a beloved pet. I paint in layers, which slows the process, but helps to create depth and complexity of color even while working with a limited palette. The process takes me from a free-flowing underpainting to a controlled and realistic image. The result is something that I hope the viewer can relate to and which emits a positive emotion.”
